The Constituent Assembly............

ROLE OF YOUTH IN CA ELECTION

Youths, higgledy-piggledy the age of 18-35, are the potentials to fuel any veteran
change. They can play any dominating role in any hot-cake like burning issue, e
ither be the People's movement 1990, Jana-Andolan 2....They were the youths who chanted slogans for LOKTANTRA and stood forefront in the battlefield who didn't dream to bring anarchy. The youths provoked freedom and independence to carry the country to the ages of dignity, equity and peace. Youths are looking ahead for the utility of national consensus aiming to contribute towards building a nation whereeach individual enjoys rights and freedom, where the slogans of "SECTARIANISM" gets erased by FRATERNITY which is the need of new-millennium Nepal. Despite of all hurdles and humiliations which happens to be mud-slinging, bickering and horse-trading in Nepali Politics of 12 years history, Nepal after various troughs and crest have just entered in the path of peace and prosperous for which a giant leapor gala i.e. Constitutional Assembly Election is said to be stated on April 10 bidding goodbye to all the transitional phase of the country. Elections are the mediumthrough which people exercise the sovereign power vested on them. Elections are thedemocratic method of choosing representatives of people. Free and fair election are apparently the heart and soul of democracy. Effective participation, voting equality, enlightened understanding, control of agenda and inclusion are some of the criterias for the democratic process. It’s been almost a decade since Nepal had a legitimate election. So far as the context in Nepal is considered, CA is one of the best alternatives to reform the democratic system which is probably the winnable game in the country and help to break the cycle of political stagnation.

"Of the people, By the people, For the people." is what Abraham Lincoln said about democracy during his Gettysburg speech. A perfect democratic country should upheld the egalitarian approach by accommodating the voices of youth. The 'infant' democracy emerging out from the shadows of autocracy like ours is that it is not practised at even the lowest level of society. Unless the political parties maintain a transparency and accountability, change the deep rooted monopoly ruling mindset over the decision making process and incorporate the voices of marginalized, disenfranchised youths(especially girls); country can't metamorph in the path ofrapid progress. The people are on the verge of historic CA poll to make their own constitution. Democracy is not just being able to choose your representatives. It's a way of life. It’s a practice that all society should follow to help individual develop their potentials to the fullest. It’s an established fact that democracy can't sustain without protecting the rights of youth.

Youths have to be serious in carrying out it's responsibilities i.e. self compliance
with the code of conduct, help the election commission discipline other political pa
rties.Youths should give the pressure to the parties who are breaching the code of
conduct which deteriorates on the question of unity. Intacting our national integri
ty is a big challenge. Not only the governments, youth and rebels are responsible for the problems that emerged at the prima of election. The CA election was postponed twice. We failed to hold it then and we scrapped the constitution and the parliament. The monarchy became active which led mocking disaster-public massacre. Youth should be fully centralized to the different parts of the country as the major protester from the royalists are suspected of fuelity and aggravating different programmes. The most potent threat to the CA election is from the Royalty because the greatest looser of the election happen is the Royal Institution. This happens all due to insecurity and conflicts (i.e. regional, caste, communal, economical)so on and so forth. If the proper attention is not given by the youths, the CA poll may scuttle altogether then there may arise severe key hurdles and find the sufficient safeguards so as to assure free and fair election.

The political parties are acting like they are fighting on a battle ground as they carry out their election campaign. They should have patience. No political parties have their right to dogmatism. Let’s talk about 7-party alliance, only the 3 major parties- NC, UML, Maoist are consulted in all major negotiations and the last 8 points agreement also was concluded. Then where are the rights of all the remaining 4 parties gone? Is this inclusive? so, the youth should torch their finger at these crucial issue. If such situation is not improved, multitude of small incidences may detract the public and the CA Election may be derailed. The need for an effective and unbiased campaign for voters’ education is being increasingly felt as the CA Poll is not more than 7 days to go. Youths should visit door to door to educate people about the importance of CA poll and their participation.

The so-called pillar of Nation- youth should give emphasis on bringing the parties
manifestoes to hoi-polloi by which it brings awareness to the volumest. Election
awareness programmes and projects seem urban-centric rather than rural-centric. Either the intellectuals or none, most of us are hectic on practicing to vote for the
same race rite and ritual since generations i.e. NC,UML...that does good or bad,
no matters which is totally fuddy-duddy faux-pas concept. so, how about discarding such tradition and giving your vote for the boffin candidate rather than the boloney one?

Be and end all-youths want a real change that ensures their inclusion in the affairs
of state. By empowering the marginalized with the knowledge and the consciousness; youths can play a vital role in ending the political perversion and stratified situation that have historically been the country's lot. As our country prepares for the election to the CA, a few questions still loom in the queries of young minds. Will our society really transferring into a democratic one? Are the remnants of autocracy and dictatorship eradicated from their source? Only if the government takes careful attention to such youth-warnings; the CA election may become a reality. Then only, we’d rejoice hey-day of a utopian system brought by the youths' cock-a-hoop story.

BE CAUTIOUS!!! DON'T BE IN A CATCH 22 SITUATION!!!

Kind Regards,
